Christopher Bailey for Burberry is the best thing that ever happened to the fashion house, except for maybe the trench. His masterful ways of combining a feminine silhouette with edgy features, enables him to really target that strong minded woman from business to evening. For his SS11 collection, his use of nude colouring and pops of hot accents, along with edgy details (top stitching for quilt-like reults on leather), enables the collection to be well balanced. Girly dresses under sharp leather jackets continue this theme.

Many of the shows for SS11 are incoporating whites and different themes that have been popular in the last couple of seasons. Voluminous shapes, structured silhouettes, floral motifs, are amongst the many different variations in the garments we have seen.


Phillip Lim is known for his edgy yet, relaxed and comfortable garments that have been seen on some of the coolest and chicest models in NYC and Paris to the streets and homes of Orange County. I am so very glad he is able to change how many Californians see clothing, as he grew up in Orange County and graduated from Cal State Long Beach. Girly, modern, whimsical, and edgy.

Stars N Garments

So we have many celebrities today whom love fashion and love to reinvent themselves. It's part of who we are: it's the way humans adapt and evolve. Not only are you able to express yourself through your clothes, but they become an extension of you: a body part. What more can you ask for?! It's almost like therapy. Clothes really show people how you feel inside; why cover up your emotions? Let your clothes speak for you ;)

I'm OBSESSED with Scandinavian model Freja Beha Erichsen and Academy Award Winner Tilda Swinton. They have this other-worldly look, which I love, and have amazing taste in clothes. Garments just look better on their bodies.

The OG of Crazy Avant Gardenes

Who else can it be but Elsa Schiaparelli! The Original Gangsta of Craziness! Her designs were far advanced and ahead of everyone else. She had this rockstar quality, which not only translated through her garments, but even her own photoshoots and images. This woman WAS Glam Rock personified. We can still see bits and pieces of her and her ideas in designers today:

Shapes

Since one can remember, architecture has been inspiring people of all industries in terms of shapes, silhouettes, innovation, etc. One has to understand that so much work and research goes into the concpetion and inception of these ideas and environments. The built form most definitely relates to the body; garments being a smaller-scale version of what's all around us. Take for example:







There is so much attention to detail in terms of fabrication, construction and the materials chosen, always impacting us humans on a larger scale.

I've always been obsessed with everything Japanese, but as I'm discovering more techniques to use in my garment-making, I can't understand how one comes up with these super crazy and difficult processes: the Japanese are AMAZING!  From tradition techniques, to new ways of using old fabrics, it's all so awesome.  

I'm really getting into UNDERCOVER by Jun Takahashi.  I need to put up his newest line for men too.  A lot of attention to detail.. total rock star and friend of Rei Kawakubo of Comme de Garçons, and influenced heavily by Vivienne Westwood.

I know this is from an older show, but I love Junya Watanabe!  Talk about Fashion and Architecture, eh?  He's soo amazing with his pleating, cocoon-like objects, and awesome technique of draping.

Sorry to break up this awesome segment that is my homage to Japanese Greatness, but can I just vent about how I hate (yes, I know this is a strong word) J. Crew?!  They're so gross!  I'm not even going to ruin this entry with an image of theirs... plus they're advertising everywhere; I'm surprised there aren't adverts in the bottom of the urinals.  Bottom of toilets?!  In my ass!  They're soo weird!  We must stop them!  Them and Dumbass Republic.. Banana needs to slip on they're own peels and die!  OK, I think I'm done haha!

Back to Japan:

I'd like to close this installment with Ms. Rei Kawakubo.. most awesome and genius!

So I believe Rei is full of technique; I'm always in total awe of her silhouettes, cuts, and her ability to manipulate any type of fabric.  There is also attention to detail which is almost always apparent in all japanese design, not only in fashion.  

One of my most favorite architecture firms are Klein Dytham Architecture in Tokyo.  The originally went over to Tokyo when they had graduated from the RCA in London to work for Tadao Ando.. and got the job!  They've remained in Tokyo ever since.

First Rant, Hussein Chalayan is on my mind too.

I'm rather excited about all of this shape-ing going on in the fashion world.  

I can't wait to see more though.  I'm tired of all of this early 90s.. I'd like it to be more like 1390s. Maybe some chain mail and the like.

I guess I should introduce myself: I did Architecture for a while, always incorporating design into everything.  I get bored of old things easily.. guess it's my ADD or something.  So I decided to do graphics/sculpture/fine arts. Ended up combining all of em, and now I'm doing my true love: Fashion.  So this is how I'm here.  Love it or hate it.

You all should tell me why you're here too. I need to meet more people before I go nuts.
